COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus councilmen are moving forward in the demolition process of the old Gilmer Inn.

A bid to get rid of asbestos in the old hotel was approved by city leaders at Tuesday night’s council meeting.

Now, the city will start accepting bids for the demolition work.

Concrete from the building will be crushed on site.

Once that is complete, workers will move the concrete to the 14th Avenue ditch.

The material will be used to help with drainage issues in the ditch that has been cleared of creosote from the old Kerr McGee – Moss tie plant.
