STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)-The ribbon was cut at the brand new, now open for business, ” E Waste of Mississippi.”

The waste center is the first of its kind in Starkville, taking in used electronics for recycling.

Electronic garbage is toxic and if not properly recycled can create hazards to the environment.

Owner, Mohamed Aitali told WCBI why he wanted to open the recycling center… “Protect the environment and do help with the people of the Mississippi. We are trying to work together to educate on thinking about recycling; the advantage and the resource. So that’s the reason we dedicated one here.”

Items Accepted:

Computers and their peripherals, Televisions, MP3 player, Ipods, Laptops, Printers, Copiers, Scanners, Stereos, Networking equipment, Phones, Misc. Cables, Household appliances, DVD players or VCR’s, and Handheld Electronics.

A $5 fee will be charged for each monitor recycled and for each hard dive data destruction.

A $10 fee will be charged for each TV recycled.

A $40 fee will be charged for each household appliance such as a washer, dryer, fridge, freezer, oven, ECT.

No furniture, glass, hazardous waste, batteries, paint, used oil, cleaning supplies, or tires will be accepted.

Facility is open Monday-Saturday 9 AM to 5PM.
