Grenada Minister Allegedly Robbed Friday

GRENADA, Miss. (Grenada Star) — A local minister was the victim of both malicious mischief and armed robbery Friday, although police can’t be sure the incidents are related.

According to a police report, officers initially responded to a call at about 2:38 a.m. on the 300 block of Harvey Street.

Officers found glass broken out of a window on the front of the residence of Rev. Perry Montgomery.

“The call was placed by a neighbor,” Capt. George Douglas with the Grenada Police Department said.

According to the report, officers cleared the scene at 3:10 a.m.

About two hours later, officers were recalled to Montgomery’s residence.

Douglas would not say who placed the second call.

According to the report, Montgomery said that someone entered his residence by further breaking the window and prying the security bars apart.

Per the report, Montgomery stated that the suspect was a male, approximately 5-foot-10-inches and 160 pounds, wearing a heavy black jacket, black mask and blue jeans.

“The suspect brandished a small caliber handgun, according to the report,” Douglas said.

The suspect told Montgomery to “give me the money,” the report said, at which point Montgomery surrendered his credit card.

The suspect then left the residence by unlocking the door and letting himself out.

A black hat was recovered from the scene, near where Montgomery said the suspect entered through the window, according to the report.

Montgomery said he did not recognize the suspect’s voice.

“Rev. Montgomery has been the victim of previous crimes. We investigate each on its own merit,” Douglas said, adding that an investigation is ongoing.
