OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Many shoppers will be lighting up their grill this weekend.

If your boating, swimming or camping this weekend, chances are you’re also grilling.

When a grill lights up in Oktibehha County, chances are Hobie Hobart is behind it.

“It’s just something about the smoke, it’s the camaraderie of friends and hanging around,” says Hobart.

and if your new to making grill marks Hobart says it’s important to plan in advance.

” Cook butts on the 3rd of July to cook on the 4th of July, because it takes about 12 hrs, ” says Hobart.

and if you’re overwhelmed by your seasoning option…you could try this.

“Garlic powder. I like using black pepper, a little bit of Tony’s or cajun seasoning salt on it,” Hobart.

He says before you light your fire, remember this.

“Let your lighter fluid soak into your charcoal,” Hobart.

and good things come to those who wait.

“cook slow, you know, cook low and slow on stuff like this we’re cooking today, the ribs and the boston butt,” says Hobart.

Hobart says his love for charcoal cooking comes from his family’s traditions.

” The men always cooked the grill, and the ladies always cooked inside, so that’s kind of what we do,” says Hobart.

Traditions he now shares with visitors at Wet N Wild in Starkville, making sure the classics and sides are always hot of the grill.

Hobart says if the weather keeps you stuck inside because of rain, you can always cook meat in the over, just remember to cook it slow at a low temperature.
