GTR Airport Impact Tops $272 Million

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. — The Golden Triangle Regional Airport (GTR) benefits the local economy in numerous ways, including a total of $272,548,100 in economic activity, according to a report recently released by the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

Included in the analysis are both direct and indirect factors such as payroll, visitor spending, impact on local industry, and many other areas that stimulate the economy.

The overall report indicates that Mississippi’s 73 airports have an impact of over $2.5 billion and support more than 20,000 jobs. The Golden Triangle Regional Airport ranks third in the state behind Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers Airport and the Gulfport International Airport.

“We are proud to be part of the tremendous economic growth in the Golden Triangle,” GTR Executive Director Mike Hainsey stated. “The exciting part is that we are still growing as more industries and people look at making our part of Mississippi their home.”

Hainsey cited projects such as the GTR Global Aerospace Park on the west side of the Airport as well as efforts to attract additional air service as proof the area’s economy continues to be on the rise.
