PRESS RELEASE

Columbus, Miss. ––The Golden Triangle Regional (GTR) Airport had more passengers travel last month than in any single month in the previous decade. In May, 3,974 passengers boarded flights from the GTR Airport, an increase of 2.5% over the same month last year. Overall, the flights ran 92.5% full for the month.
“The growth in the passenger numbers is just another indication that our communities are growing,” said GTR Airport Executive Director Mike Hainsey. “Businesses such as Yokohama, Steel Dynamics, and PACCAR rely on our airport to connect with worldwide destinations.”
The GTR Airport currently has three roundtrip flights to Atlanta on Delta Air Lines. The significant industrial growth in the area has prompted the airport to seek additional flights to meet the demand, especially from the business community. Last year, GTR Airport was awarded a $750,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to help attract westbound service. Combined with community, state, and airport incentives, the airport has put together an incentive package of nearly $2 million for increased service.
“Discussions continue with the appropriate airlines for increased service,” said Hainsey. “We understand the importance it holds for our community.”
