Hackleburg Remembers Tornado Anniversary

HACKLEBURG, Ala. (WCBI) — April 27, 2011 is a day the town of Hackelburg, Ala. will never forget.

Friday, the community came together to remember the lives lost in a deadly tornado that day.

Eightteen people died in the EF-5 twister and most of the town was destroyed.

Today’s memorial included a walk through downtown to the site of a monument that bears the names of those who died.

Speakers not only spoke of those who are gone but also gave thanks for the miracles of that day and the blessings that have followed in three years of rebuilding.

“So it’s real meaningful to people that they survived this storm and God has been blessing us ever since…Just about everyone has a miracle story about how God helped us go through this,” said Hackleburg resident July Wolfe.

Saturday, the town will host its 3th annual neighbor day festival. There will be music, games, and food starting at 9 a.m.
