STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – From eye and hearing tests to tips on healthy nutrition, two organizations are partnering to make sure veterans have access to health services.

OCH Regional Medical Center and Americorps sponsored the health fair. The event was free and open to the public. Medical screenings for blood pressure and diabetes were available. The Starkville Police Department also provided free child IDs and fingerprints. Americorps is a non-profit organization that helps those in active duty and retirees receive their benefits from the military.

“We’re also trying to take information on our former veterans that may not be receiving all the services that they usually receive. We have some intake workers here who can take information on that and assist them on maybe getting some greater resources that they otherwise don’t have,” says Beverly Hammett with Americorps.

This is the first year OCH and Americorps sponsored a veterans health fair.
