TUPELO, Miss. ( WCBI) — Families in Tupelo are dropping some L-B’s.

It’s all part of a pilot program at Healthworks geared to helping overweight kids live a healthier lifestyle.

The program is helping families lay a healthy foundation that will help them for years to come.

Karen Lansdell and her son Braxton are working hard to get fit, thanks to a program at Healthworks that teaches them healthy eating habits and exercise techniques.

Lansdell says she and Braxton are really enjoying the program.

” He has a new excitement for exercising and making sure his body is not only fit but healthy, ” says Lansdell.

Lansdell says through losing weight, she’s gained a closer relationship with her kids.

“It’s been a great way for me to bond with the kids and spend time with them in the afternoons. It’s been very stress relieving and enjoyable, ” says Lansdell.

And when their time at Healthworks wraps up, they hope to continue working hard while keeping each other motivated.

” I have learned a new love for exercising and I hope to continue this, once our program here is over, ” says Lansdell.

A program Healthworks hopes to soon make permanent so more families like the Lansdell’s can get active.

The program ends next week,  families paid 25 dollars to join but will get their money back,  plus a 100 dollar grocery gift card if they complete the program successfully.
