COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Unfortunately, we can’t all win the lottery.

On Wednesday, juniors and seniors at Columbus High had the chance to experience what life is like in the real world.

The students were given a budget based on their GPA.

The higher the student’s GPA, the more money they received.

Students were allowed to spend the fake money on housing, transportation, gas, and other necessities.

The Lowndes County Junior Auxiliary said this type of program is beneficial because it prepares students for what they will face once they leave high school.

“As a parent I just see our kids spending endless mom and dad money and not having a true understanding of what our house cost, what our car cost those sort of things, so I think it’s good for the kids to say hey this is what mom and dad do this is why they go to work everyday,” Lowndes County Junior Auxiliary chairman Danette Starks said.

Junior Auxiliary members said the program is beneficial in the classroom and a lesson students enjoy.
