High Speed Chase Sends Man To Hospital

TIPPAH COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A man on the run is clinging to life after fleeing from Mississippi Highway Patrol in Tippah County.

Jerry Matthew Ward, age 31, of Selmer, TN led troopers on a high speed chase on U.S. 72 at approximately 10 a.m. Friday morning.

Troopers pursued Ward for approximately 15 miles before he lost control of his 2000 Nissan Pick up, near Faulkner, MS, on MS 370, and crashed.

He was transported by ambulance to NMMC in Tupelo with life threatening injuries he received from the crash.

It is unclear at this time why Ward refused to stop. He has a lengthy criminal history, including a previous felony fleeing charge.

The incident is being investigated by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation an the Mississippi Highway Patrol Accident Reconstruction Team.

Ward faces felony fleeing charges and possibly other charges pending the investigation.
