LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-There was no trash collection in the Golden Triangle area on Christmas Day, but now things are really picking up.

You can expect Golden Triangle Waste trucks to be logging extra miles for the next 5 days or so.

“Thanksgiving everything picks up you know cause the holidays come around. But from here to the first of the year, its a lot of work going on. Lot of work,” said Benny Martin, Sanitation Supervisor.

“It’ll be a problem sometime, but most of the time we just take our time and go about doing it just get it up,” said,Leon McGee, City Worker.

Those city workers may have had the Christmas Holiday off, but that’s over, and they are back at work, harder than ever.

“We always work on the weekend when holidays come up. So we’ll make that holiday up on Saturday (12-29),” said Martin.

So for those of you who just got through celebrating Christmas, remember that those sanitation workers are left with the monumental task of sprucing up and getting everything back to normal.

“Lot of trash, you know, lot of different kind of, well you got Christmas trees, you got extra boxes you know. And its just a lot of work,” said Martin.

The residential trash pick-up in Columbus, Starkville, and West Point is a contracted service through Golden Triangle Waste Services.
