Holly Springs, Miss. (WCBI) — After an EF-3 tornado struck Holly Springs, MS, residents are faced with cleaning up pieces of their town.

Rising Star Road residents were caught in the middle of the tornado’s path, damaging many homes and leaving some in the hospital.

“It was just wild…” said homeowner Elester Gatewood, “…it is just a wild experience that I had. I never had this in my life…seen anything like it.”

Neighbors say the storm only lasted 10 to 15 seconds before the community they had known all their lives was forever changed.

“[I’ve} never been scared, but I was yesterday…”, said resident Thadeus Zin.

One woman and two children were injured on the street after the twister leveled their mobile home. The woman and children suffered multiple injuries, but are expected to make a full recovery.

The woman’s daughter Charleshia Moore was at McDonald’s with her daughter at the time the tornado struck.

“This is just something you see on TV…”, said Moore, “not knowing that it can actually happen but it can happen to your family, to your friend, to your neighbor, to your sister, to your brother…”

Although the damage left behind was severe, residents are coming together to rebuild their community.

The National Weather Service will continue surveying the damage. The EF-3 rating is preliminary.
