Horse Show Association Treasurer Charged With Embezzlement
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — The treasurer of the Mississippi Horseshow Association who also is a top business manager at Mississippi State University has been arrested for embezzlement.
Eupora resident Beth Collum is accused of taking a “significant amount” of money from the horse show association, where she’s served as treasurer for four years.
She turned herself in and sources tell WCBI she has admitted to the thefts, blaming them on a series of “personal problems” that she’s now in counseling for to overcome.
The 1988 MSU graduate has worked at the university since 2006 and most recently was business manager for the office of vice president and provost.
She previously was senior accountant at Garan Manufacturing in Eupora for 12 years.
Collum has been placed on administrative leave from her job at MSU while the university looks into the case although the allegations don’t involve theft from the university. Collum is free on $10,000 bond.
The horse show group has no ties to the university.
