BALDWYN, Miss. (WCBI) — Some of Mississippi’s top Republicans are just as frustrated as every day citizens about the current state of politics in Washington.

In Baldwyn Thursday to speak to the local Rotary Club, Republican Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann joked that his office and others in the state aren’t shutdown. In fact, his staff is busy on everything from collecting 16th Section land revenues for school districts to getting ready to roll out the state’s new Voter ID guidelines next June.

But he says during a recent trip to Washington D.C., he couldn’t help but be struck by the thought of thousands of soldiers buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

“Not a one of those soldiers gave their lives so their government could shut down,” Hosemann said.

“I’m really disappointed, I’m like everybody else, we can’t understand why our nation can’t have a budget,” he continued.

“I think everyone is frustrated with our political climate right now, including me…they ought to compromise or come home,” he said of Congress and President Barack Obama.

Hosemann’s Baldwyn visit was part of a series of stops in Northeast Mississippi.
