Houlka Whistle-Stop

HOULKA, Miss. (WCBI) – The Tanglefoot Trail has made it to Houlka and the first of four whistle-stops is going up.

Clearing for the trail that stretched from Houston to New Albany began last summer.

Now that it’s reached Houlka, construction for the stops along the route have begun. The whistle-stop is nearly half-way complete, and construction on two caution lights has also begun.

The stop will have restroom facilities, water fountains, bike racks, benches, and a picnic area.

The 44.5 mile long trail is going up along the old GM&O railroad bed, and officials hope to have it opened by this fall.
