House Approves Bill Which Would Grant Resort Status to Lion Hills Center

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Alcohol may become an option for events at Lion Hills in Columbus.

The Mississippi House of Representatives today approved a request to grant resort status to the facility which is now a campus for East Mississippi Community College.

The school asked for designation in order to be able to serve alcohol at banquets and receptions booked at the center.

The move also gives the schools culinary arts and hotel management students the chance to learn about every aspect of the hospitality industry.

State law prohibits alcohol on state-owned properties, so that is why the special designation was needed.

The bill now heads to the full senate for consideration.
