HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) — No one wants to pay more, but city leaders in Houston say higher water and sewer rates are a necessary evil.

Aldermen raised rates this week to help pay back loans for major water and sewer line repairs.

The minimum water bill will be $32 for 2,000 gallons of water. It was 3,000 gallons. That’ll mean about $8 more a month for the average customer.

Sewer rates will increase 20 cents from $2.80 per thousand gallons to $3.

The new rates take effect next month.
