HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) — Area lawmakers say naming a major Bridge in Chickasaw County for a long-time legislator makes sense.

The town of Houston and Chickasaw County supervisors want the Highway 15 bridge over Highway 8 in Houston named for former State Rep Billy Bowles, who died in September at age 78. The long-time Democrat and small business owner served in the Legislature for 20 years from 1984 to 2004 and was known for his support of people in need, agriculture and the state’s progressive 1987 four-lane highway program. He also was known for being a skeptic of legislation, always questioning whether it was motivated by a special interest looking to make money.

The Legislature must recommend the bridge naming to the Department of Transportation.
