Houston School Board to Establish Criteria for New Superintendent with Input from Community

HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) — The Houston community will have a tremendous say-so in the selection of the new school superintendent.

After declining to renew current superintendent Steve Coker’s contract, the board is in the midst of determining who will fill the spot.

Per the recommendation of Harold Fisher of the Mississippi School Board Association, the board will work in tandem with school faculty, staff and the community in hiring a new superintendent.

Fisher told the board it was vital to consider the opinions of the affected residents.

The board will hold a community meeting Feb. 5 at the Houston Lower Elementary School.
