Houston School District Will Buy Buses

HOUSTON, Miss. (AP) — Houston School District hopes buy at least seven new buses by this fall.

The buses will cost about $75,000 each.

Superintendent Steve Coker tells a local newspaper the total cost is expected to be $525,000.

Houston has not bought any new buses in eight years. Many of Houston’s buses are over 10 years old.

Plans are for two buses to be allocated for band and sports trips; two buses be used for city routes; and the remaining buses used routes as needed.

The district would retire six 1995 buses.

Coker said the school district hire an attorney to solicit bids for the buses and return to the board for a formal vote. The details of the bond financing package will be decided then.
