Houston Water Rates Could Increase

HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) — The price of maintaining important services like water and sewer service could increase in Houston.

For the first time in almost a decade, aldermen raised property taxes last fall to balance the city’s budget without cuts to services.

Now, aldermen may have to raise water rates to pay for water and sewer line upgrades across the city.

One proposal is to lower the minimum bill from 3,000 to 2,000 gallons a month. That would mean about an $8 a month increase on the average customer.

Mayor Stacy Parker says aldermen likely will continue their discussion at Tuesday night’s meeting.
