LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Special response teams need to be prepared for anything. The shooting in Iuka this weekend reminds everyone how easily their job can go from dangerous to deadly.

The need for a more advanced plan,That’s when a routine call turns into a situation that requires some back up.

“That’s more advance for say a regular patrol,” says Lowndes County Narcotics Unit Commander Archie Williams.

At that point a variety of teams could be asked to help. That call is made based on jurisdiction and how much help is needed.

Once teams are in place, plans and people need to move fast as things can take a turn for the worst at any moment.

“Rapidly evolving when it comes to how you handle it and all that, it just changes by the second,” says Agent Williams.

That’s why special response teams have to ready for anything.

“We try to imagine any situation possible. And during our training, scenarios we try to match it and make it as realistic as possible,” says Williams.

They call it real life training.

The team trains once every two weeks sometimes using empty houses to make sure they’re ready to deal with any layout they may have to handle.

“Kind of know what we’re looking at when it gets to that time,” says Agent Williams.

Once it’s time to head in, he says you just have to trust your training kicks in.
