LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — If the employment landscape remains a jungle for job seekers, East Mississippi Community College offered some help today.

More than 50 area businesses and industries — ranging from banks to restaurants to steel makers — took applications, answered questions and offered guidance today during the college’s annual spring job fair.

Hundreds of students, people between careers and others looking for a change of direction took the opportunity to network and scout out job opportunities from the smallest companies to global giants.

The idea is for partnerships to eventually pay dividends for the work force and the employers.

“There are global jobs that pay well and we are partnering very closely with them and that is part of what we do,” said EMCC President Dr. Rick Young.

“Most young people don’t have anything they can find or any jobs that really hire them on the spot. Coming here gives us a chance to be together and just work out our situations until we find something we can really do,” added Trikeya Lockridge of Prairie.

This is the 12th year EMCC has hosted the job fair.
