TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) -A Northeast Mississippi company is recognized for success when it comes to export sales to international markets.
As WCBI’s Allie Martin reports, the Tupelo based firm has made a name for itself with industrial and military clients since it began six years ago.

Whether it’s an order for a well known business,  or  part of a sensor that detects gunfire from enemies and helps protect U S troops in Afghanistan, engineers  at Hyperion Technology Group are known for excellence and innovation.

The company is also known for its ability to market its products outside of the United States.

On Friday, Hyperion Technology Group received the “Governor’s Award for Excellence in Exporting” during a reception in Jackson.

“It is a big deal, it is a great accomplishment for Hyperion, I have the pleasure of working with some of the best scientists and engineers in the world,” said Geoff Carter, president of Hyperion Technology Group.

Twenty one people work out of the company’s main office in Tupelo. Hyperion began in 2009 at the Renasant Center for Ideas, but quickly outgrew that space, moving to its current location four years ago.

Hyperion Technology Group quickly made a name for itself, designing and manufacturing sensors with a wide variety of applications. Some of the sensors are able to pinpoint the location of gunfire or rocket launches. Other sensors can detect earthquakes, volcanoes and other natural disasters.

“You can hear a hurricane from thousands, a thousand miles away in some cases, you can hear a tornado from 50 miles away using this technology,” said Garth Frazier, who  has been with Hyperion Technology Group since day one. He is a native Mississippian and is grateful for the opportunities the company provides.

“Having been around this kind of work my entire career and seeing how much of it occurs in Northern Virginia, Midwest and southern and northern California , and Silicon Valley, to have it here in Tupelo is pretty exciting,” Frazier said.

Carter says the Excellence in Exporting award is also a testimony to the team effort from local and state officials.

“People like our governor and the Mississippi Development Authority are really pushing to help promote small businesses, not only in Mississippi, and the United States, but everywhere in the world,” Carter said.

Hyperion has enjoyed steady growth since it opened. Carter says the company may expand its workforce by ten new positions in the near future.
