ICC Commemorates World Autism Month

ITAWAMBA, Miss. (Press Release) — In commemoration of April as World Autism Month, Itawamba Community College’s David C. Cole Student Services building at the Fulton Campus will be blue at night to emphasize the platform of Miss Itawamba Community College 2014 Johnna Wilson of Fulton.

Wilson’s platform is entitled “A.S.K.M.E.,” which stands for Autism Spectrum Knowledge Means Everything. “Autism Spectrum Disorder is a high functioning form of Autism in which a child is able to function in society, but has difficulty in social activities,” Wilson said. “I am sincerely committed to my platform because it is an issue that affects my own family. It is not just an abstract cause for me, it is a part of my daily life.”

Wilson, who has contributed numerous hours of one-on-one education, has been involved in several fundraisers to benefit The Autism Center of Tupelo, where she has served as a volunteer.

She plans to partner with Autism Speaks, as well as other schools and community service organizations in ICC’s five-county district, and ultimately the entire state to raise awareness and provide extensive education.
Light It Up Blue is a unique global initiative that helps raise awareness about autism.
