Chase Prompts Two Oxford Schools To Take Precautionary Measures

OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) — A police chase interrupts class at two nearby Oxford schools Tuesday morning.

Oxford police Major Jeff McCutchen tells WCBI the department received a call from the Hampton Inn around 11 a.m. about some men using counterfeit money.

He says when officers arrived, the three suspects tried to run away. Some took off in the woods.

Since the men were closeby, Della Davidson Elementary was put on lockdown.

At Oxford High, students and employees had to be in place inside of the building as a safety precaution.

McCutchen says police now have the suspects in custody.

They’ll likely be charged with fraud or forgery.

Officers believe one of the men also had drugs.

McCutchen says none of the suspects was armed.

Police are not releasing their names at this time, since they haven’t been formally charged yet.
