LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The two Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies shot last week remain in Baptist Golden Triangle Hospital recovering from their injuries.

Chief Deputy, Marc Miley says deputies Clint Sims and Larry Swearingen are “improving” but have “long roads ahead” of them. The two were shot through the front door of a home on Drake Circle when they went to the home to check on its owner, Kent Coscia.

Family members asked for the welfare check. Sims was shot in the leg and Swearingen in the abdomen with a high-powered semi-automatic weapon. Coscia remains in the Monroe County Jail on $3 million bond and is in solitary confinement for his own safety.

Funds to assist the deputies’ families are set up at Cadence Banks throughout the region.
