Insulation Company Breaks Ground on Marshall County Plant

MARSHALL COUNTY, Miss. — Rockwool International officials and State of Mississippi economic development leadership officially broke ground on the company’s first manufacturing facility in the United States. Rockwool is the parent company of Roxul, the leading manufacturer of stone wool insulation products in North America.

The plant, located approximately 30 miles south of Memphis, was announced last year and is expected to be operational by second quarter, 2014. The facility will encompass 600,000 square feet and located on a 100-acre site in the Chickasaw Trail Industrial Park. The company will invest $160 million in the plant, which will employ approximately 150.

“Rockwool and Roxul are delighted to be locating and constructing our first United States plant, and believe this will enable us to meet the growing demand for our stone wool insulation product,” said Roxul President, Trent Ogilvie. “We analyzed several possible sites in the Southeastern United States, and the State of Mississippi and Marshall County provided us the optimal site. We look forward to a long and prosperous relationship.”

Among those participating in the groundbreaking were Rockwool CEO Eelco van Heel, Roxul President Trent Ogilvie, Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant, Danish Ambassador to the United States Peter Taksøe-Jensen, Rockwool Sr. VP Klaus Franz, Rockwool CFO Gilles Maria, Mississippi Development Authority executive director Brent Christensen and elected officials from Marshall County.

Roxul’s high quality insulation is made from natural stone and contains up to 40 percent recycled materials. The green process recycles out production waste so that zero manufacturing waste goes to landfill. Additionally, Roxul uses storm water and recycled process water in production, and heat from the manufacturing process is recycled to heat the facility.

“The State of Mississippi is proud that Roxul chose to locate in Marshall County, and we appreciate the company’s strong belief in our citizens and their work ethic,” said Bryant. “This will be a cutting-edge facility that will be environmentally friendly, result in high-paying jobs and produce a high-end product. We like to say that ‘Mississippi Works,’ and this outstanding manufacturing operation will illustrate that to the world on many levels.”

Roxul’s stone wool insulation is the choice of building professionals because of its abilities to save energy, reduce noise and prevent the spread of fire for a broad range of building and industrial uses. Roxul currently operates two North American facilities in Canada, located in Milton Ontario, and Grand Forks, British Columbia.

Roxul and the Mississippi Development Authority were recently honored with a 2013 CiCi Awards (Corporate Investment and Community Impact) by Trade & Industry Development for the location of the facility in Marshall County. The award honors the company for investing in the community and the economic developers responsible for security that investment. Roxul was one of 15 companies recognized in the Community Investment category, along with such corporations as Apple, Caterpillar, Amazon and Polaris Industries.

Roxul Inc. is a subsidiary of Rockwool International, the world’s largest producer of stone wool insulation. Rockwool International is a publicly held company, which trades on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. Operating 27 factories in 17 countries, the Rockwool Group employs more than 9,700 people and features a global network of sales companies, trade offices and dedicated commercial partners. Roxul’s products provide superior thermal and acoustical value and are fire resistant, water repellent, non-corrosive and resistant to mold.
