Itawamba County, Miss. (WCBI) – Itawamba County is investing from one economic development success into what it hopes will turn into another.

County leaders have purchased 261 acres along the Tenn-Tom Waterway south of Fulton and its port for future industrial prospects. The site has rail service and access to Highway 25.

The county used $380,000 dollars from the recent sale of the Townhouse Furniture building in Mantachie to buy the new site. The Townhouse building sold for $690,000 and is now home to Jackson Furniture.

County leaders say they need the land because the county only has about 20 acres left at the port and 195 acres at the Fawn Grove Industrial Park where a Toyota supplier is located.
