Itawamba Water Association Announces Improvement Plan

By: Steve Rogers

ITAWAMBA CO., Miss. – (WCBI)More than 1,700 Itawamba County homes may soon have a reliable source of drinking water.

For more than two years, customers of the Northeast Itawamba Water Association have been pushing the rural utility to find a way to stop low water pressure and line breaks that have plagued the system, especially in the Ridge Road area.

The exchanges sometimes have been heated and forced changes in the utility’s management. Now, the water district is close to signing a deal to buy water from the city of Fulton. A large pipe and two pump stations would get the water to Northeast and then on to customers. A small rate increase and state and federal loans and grants would cover the costs.
