Video: Jail Escapee Freedom Short Lived

STARKVILLE, MS (WCBI) -Starkville police and Oktibbeha County deputies make a quick arrest after an inmate housed in Clay county escaped.

Officers arrested 29-year-old Depriest Gray this morning on South Montgomery Street after a traffic stop.

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott says Gray escaped from the Clay County jail last night after prying a welded metal grate away from an air conditioning vent.

Gray crawled through the oversized vent to escape. Investigators believe he had help getting out of the jail and eventually to Brooksville Gardens Apartments in Starkville where law enforcement kept an eye on him.

Gray is serving 25 years on robbery and kidnapping charges in Starkville.

He also faces home invasion and armed robbery charges in Clay County.

Now, he will be charged with escape.
