COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A Lowndes County judge dismisses Doctor Martha Liddell’s lawsuit challenging her firing as Columbus schools superintendent. Chancery Court Judge Kenneth Burns filed his order Friday dropping the case because the school board has not yet held a hearing and approved Liddell’s final dismissal. The board fired her in a 3-2 vote last month but she has asked for a hearing, which is allowed by law. Until that hearing is held and a final decision is made, Burns says the issue shouldn’t be in court. Liddell’s hearing before the board has not been yet. If the board does confirm her firing, she can then take her case to court. The board says Liddell misused school funds and personnel. Liddell denies the claims and says board members conspired secretly to fire her one year into her three-year contract.
