Video: Karl Gibbs Will Run For His Fathers Seat

CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – He was a role model for many in the community.

Representative David Gibbs passed away last Sunday just days after he had submitted a letter of resignation due to health reasons. Gibbs served in the house since 1993 and represented District 36, which include parts of Clay, Lowndes and Monroe Counties.
The special election to fill the seat should be some time in March his son Karl Gibbs said he would be proud to fill the space for his father. It will be the second Clay County resident to run for their seat.

“I would like to follow in his footsteps and that is a big role to fulfill. I want to represent District 36 as he did. I would like to take his position and continue to serve the people of District 36 and be the best Representative I could be,” said Karl Gibbs.

Visitation is Friday from 3 to 6 pm at Third Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral is Saturday at 11 am also at Third Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. He will then be laid to rest at Burial West Point Memorial Gardens.
