Kelly Keeps It Low Key In Congress

TUPELO, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi’s newest member of Congress is renting a tiny apartment in Washington and has hired most of his predecessor’s staff.

Trent Kelly tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/1UwbKGP ) that he’s adjusting to long days that often stretch into working sessions at night on Capitol Hill.

The 49-year-old Kelly took office last month after winning a special election to succeed fellow Republican Alan Nunnelee, who died in February.

Kelly is renting a 550-square-foot apartment with a fold-down bed. He says it’s just a place to sleep while he’s in Washington, but he plans to spend as much time as possible in his north Mississippi district.

Last week, he was in Tupelo, Byhalia, the Golden Triangle, Lafayette County, Monroe County and Saltillo.
