King To Get New Sentence
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A Lowndes county man convicted in the 1980 murder of Leila Patterson will get a new sentencing hearing .
Mack Arthur King was originally sentenced to death but the federal courts ruled he was mentally challenged and not subject to the death penalty. After that ruling King was sentenced to life without parole. King appealed that sentence saying at the time of his conviction jurors did not have the option of life without parole. The court today agreed and ordered him re sentenced to life with the chance at parole.
