LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – One of the nation’s potentially most innovative alternative fuels companies continues remains closely watched as another deadline for production nears.

But the builders of the Kior biofuels plant in Columbus say contractors are working out the kinks in the first-of-its-kind $250 million dollar facility. They say the technology will turn wood chips and other products into refinable oil by the end of the year, if not the end of October. Energy industry experts have been watching the plant closely since construction started in May 20-11 and some say it could change the nature of the industry. The company’s cash reserves have started to run low as its stock has lost almost one point four billion dollars and the price has dropped from almost 20 dollars a share to less than seven.
