COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Many of us wouldn’t be caught dead without or smart phones. They connect us to our family, friends and the world wide web. But how are they at keeping us fit?

Smart phones are fairly light, so you’d have to do a lot of reps, but there are apps out there that can help you count calories and achieve your fitness goals.

Some ladies from Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle Hospital are living proof.

As Springtime slowly pops into the bloom, most of us will shed our sweaters and long pants.

Who doesn’t want to look good?

These local ladies are among the hundreds of thousands who’ve down loaded the “Lose It” app to their smart phones.

Quality specialist Laquita White lays it out for us, ” It has a data base of tons and tons of foods. Tons of restaurants that are on it. And also, you can add your custom foods as well, you can add that and it scans bar codes on foods as well and its just great.”

The basic plan is free, and if your friends are on board you can hold each other accountable.

Performance Improvement Coordinator Jackie Norris explains, ” If you fall off the wagon, they will encourage you to get back on. So it’s just made all the difference in the world for me. Performance Improvement Coordinator Shelia Powers adds, we come to the track to walk, we go to the “Y” downtown and you can put your exercise in as well, and when you put exercise in that gives you more calories that you can have for the day. ”

The more you move, the more you can eat.

That’s fair.

Jackie breaks it down, ” It’s all about portion control and calorie count. It’s nothing that I don’t eat, but then I do watch and monitor the calorie count of it.”

And it works.

Laquita says, ” You need to lose 2 pounds or less a week. I’m averaging about a pound to have a pound per week.”

Shelia adds, ” For those of you who think you can’t do it, you can, it’s a proven fact that if you watch your calories and exercise, you can lose the weight, we are the evidence.

Laquita concludes, ” I’ll be on this the rest of my life.”
The ladies from Baptist know it’s doubly important for them to stay fit, because they need to inspire the people they help each day to do the same.
