LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Efforts to restore the old Lamar County school into a community showplace is taking another step forward.

Construction crews are finishing work on roofing, walls and windows along the building’s north wall to stop water leaks that have damaged the building.

That area of the old school on the city’s major intersection contains a museum, art rooms and the historical society.

In addition to a community, art and museum center, the building also serves as city hall.

Vernon aldermen also approved the city’s 2015 budget with few changes from the current year. But increased revenue did allow $30,000 for the parks budget to help with a July 4 fireworks show.
