LCSD Litter Control Program Receives New Van

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department will expand its inmate litter control program with the help of a new Dodge Caravan from the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT).

MDOT Commissioner Mike Tagert presented the van today to Lowndes County Sheriff Mike Arledge.

The state-sponsored program pays local sheriff’s departments $10 per hour to pay a deputy to supervise county jail inmates. The money also furnishes trash bags and pays mileage.

The new van will allow the department to put more inmates on the road for litter pickup throughout the county.
