Legislature Honors Officers Involved In Tishomingo Standoff
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – The Mississippi Legislature is honoring the family of a fallen Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics officer and three state troopers whom Gov. Phil Bryant awarded the Medal of Valor.
Forty-four-year-old Lee Tart was killed in late February when a six-hour standoff outside a home in Iuka ended in a shootout. The 22-year veteran and three state troopers had responded to a domestic disturbance call at the home of Charles Lambert. Tartt was killed and the officers were injured when they stormed the residence.
Bryant awarded the troopers at the State Capitol in late March.
The officers and Tartt’s family received standing ovations Wednesday by the Mississippi Senate and House. Both chambers commended Tartt’s and the officers’ service.
