COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — When planning for big events the city’s image is always important.

A crew in Columbus is tasked with making the city look squeaky clean but that doesn’t mean they don’t need help.

Trash, litter, waste … Whatever you call it, having it pile up stinks.

“It is huge. What we get often time is people going down the road throwing trash out. Not caring about the city,” says Columbus Public Works Director Casey Bush.

Even though Columbus has a crew dedicated to just pick up, it continues to be an ongoing issue.

“Sometimes we can go pick up in the area, we can come back the next day, it’s back the same way,” says Bush.

It’s a revolving issues the cities newest councilman wants to dump.

“We have to make people care. I think if people start caring about their neighborhoods then they’ll start wanting to see it cleaner,” Ward 5 Councilman Stephen Jones.

That’s why he is planning for a pick up.

“Hopefully not this Saturday but next Saturday we are going try and do a clean up day. A ward 5 clean up day,” he says.

If you choose to be part of the problem instead of the solution,it could cost you $437 and two days of trash duty.

If you see a problem with trash, potholes or anything else you thing may need fixing you can call the city’s action number at 662-329-5147.
