Video: Local DA Applies for Victims Assistant Grant

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A local district attorney is looking to get a victims coordinator for his office.

District 16 DA Scott Colom has applied for a victims assistant grant to make it happen.

The grant is funded by the state.

The Lowndes County Board of Supervisors agreed Tuesday to pay their 25 percent share of the cost, which is $9,255.

Colom says he wants to use the victims assistant coordinator to serve as a liaison between himself, and victims of crime.

“It helps serve the victims of Lowndes County,” Colom said. “It gives them a person to focus on their needs as they struggle with the consequence of violent crime.”

Colom hopes to have the position filled by the end of summer.
