NEW HOPE, Miss. (WCBI) – A group of beauties took the stage Saturday at New Hope Middle School.

The 3rd Annual Beauty and Beau Pageant was held to raise money for a local non-profit organization.

Although it was a friendly competition, it all benefited a worthy cause.
Around 20 girls competed for the title of “Most Beautiful” at the Beauty and Beau Pageant but it wasn’t all about the sparkly crowns.

The pageant is a big fundraiser for Rebecca’s Rooms, a local organization that remodels rooms for people with special needs

The volunteer-based group looks to the community to help fund their projects, which are done at no cost to the families.

“We feel that this is the community’s children and we should go about helping each other, so we rely on everyone to be apart of it, to contribute and to help make these dreams happen for these special needs families,” said Denene Thomason with Rebecca’s Rooms.

Helping others out is exactly why Jemma Pace’s 2-year-old daughter, Alaina, is in the pageant.

“We know it goes for a good cause and we like to be able to help out where we can,” said Jemma Pace.

The pageant also had a unique theme, “Free to be Me” which encourages participants to be themselves and Alaina did just that.

“I gave her an option of dresses and she said ‘no’ she was going to wear her supergirl shirt, so it’s ‘free to be me,’ so I let her be her,” said Pace.

While some take competing in pageants serious, this weekend was all about having fun and giving back to the community.

“This pageant is going to support a really, really good cause and I’m really excited to help out. Helping little kids that need help and helping anybody that actually needs help, so I’m really excited to be in it,” said pageant participant Taylor Ray.

“Right now, that’s all we do is for fun and if later in life she decides she wants to do the pageants then we will but for now, we just try to have a good time,” added Pace.

Rebecca’s Rooms is always open for volunteers and donations.
