Local Tax Service Company Under Investigation

MACON, Miss. (WCBI) — Employees at ABS Tax Service in Macon walked into work Friday morning with an unexpected surprise awaiting them.

Special agents with IRS Criminal Investigation team were there because of apparent suspicious activity.

Residents tell WCBI this isn’t the first time this tax company has been investigated by the IRS.

Residents said ABS Tax Service was first raided three or four years ago.

Although this company has been in Macon for years, some residents have always been a little suspicious of the firm.

On Friday,  members of the IRS Criminal Investigation team came in and cleaned house.

They took loads of files and other paper work, boxed it all up and loaded it on to a UHaul truck to be carried away.

IRS special agent officers were guarding the entrance of the door all throughout the day.

The news caught some off guard, however others said they’re not surprised.

In fact one resident went as far as to tell how he’s witnessed the way the company operates.

He said people who haven’t worked all year, will go inside to file their taxes.

Then a few days later, receive thousands of dollars back in taxes.

The IRS Sent a statement to WCBI, “We execute actions such as these to further our investigations into allegations of possible fraud and wrongdoing.”

Employees are now devastated because they could now possibly be without a job.

The investigation is ongoing.
