Lockdowns Lifted At Some Prisons, Others In Place

***Press Release from the Mississippi Department of Corrections***

JACKSON – Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Marshall Fisher announced today that lockdowns at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility, Unit 29 at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman and the four private prisons have been lifted.

Visitation and commissary privileges are now reinstated at the state-run and privately-operated sites where movement had been limited starting April 21.

The four private prisons affected were Marshall County Correctional Facility, East Mississippi Correctional Facility, Walnut Grove Correctional Facility and Wilkinson County Correctional Facility.

“Facilities will be locked down again whenever we experience similar behavior regarding the introduction of contraband into MDOC institutions and assaults on staff,” Fisher said.

Additionally, Fisher said any inmate who assaults staff will face criminal charges and will lose commissary privileges.

Meanwhile, the lockdowns will continue at Unit 30 at MSP and the South Mississippi Correctional Institution (SMCI) until further notice.
