LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Louisville makes some changes designed to make it easier to rebuild tornado damaged property while still making the city a better place.

But as the rebuilding continues, some property owners need to beware. The city has modified its new building codes to take out sprinkler requirements in most homes. But fire extinguishers and smoke detectors still are required in many cases.

Also, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) no longer is paying the city for debris removal, which is now the property owner’s responsibility.

Starting next month, city inspectors will start citing property owners for debris, dilapidated properties and for disabled cars.

Anyone with questions should call the city’s inspection department.
