Louisville, Miss. (WCBI)– The Louisville Municipal School District addressed many things on their agenda Tuesday, one being a state-of-the-art storm shelter to be built in Nanhi Waiya.

Superintendent Ken McMullan says the FEMA storm shelter will soon be scheduled for a ground breaking. He also said the school district has been working with FEMA to build the shelter even before the April 28th tornadoes of 2014.

FEMA will also pay for 90 percent of the cost.

McMullan is hopeful the storm shelter will be completed this time next year.

The school board also approved a request from the Mississippi School Boards Association to change their policy on allowing drones to fly on school property. The school district originally allowed drones to fly on property.

Any drones in the air will need the Federal Aviation Administration’s permission.

“…I just think they’re getting so large in size, some of them you’d have to worry about them possibly falling and hurting some of your property or falling at a athletic event and somebody actually getting hurt…”, said McMullan.

Anyone found to be flying a drone on school property with F.A.A. permission faces removal from school or banned from the district.

District 2 trustee Mark Dillard was not at the meeting tonight because his is hospitalized at the Baptist Hospital in Jackson.

School board members ask to keep him and his family in your prayers.
