LOUISVILLE, Miss. – (WCBI) Louisville is striving to be an even better place for children to grow.

The Excel By 5 initiative sets standards for communities to improve children’s overall well-being by age five. Once the standards are met, the community is awarded as a Certified Early Childhood Community.

That is what Louisville and Winston County want to become in the near future. Monday night’s town hall style meeting feature the area’s team of educators, community leaders, and parents who discussed ideas on how to achieve that designation.

“We provide health screenings. We will provide free educational materials to the community and it just helps ensure that the children of this community are ready for school by the time they enter kindergarten,” says Susan Watts, Coalition Member with the Excel by 5

The Excel By 5 program is privately funded and includes 29 communities across the state that are either certified or candidates for certification.
