Louisville Speller In National Finals

WASHINGTON D.C. (WCBI) — Dev Jaiswal of Louisville, who won Mississippi’s spelling bee title in March, is in the finals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

The Winston Academy 8th grader is one of ten students to advance to tonight’s nationally televised finals.  Jaiswal was the top ranked speller heading into this morning’s semifinals and maintained that spot to gain his position in the top ten.

Among the words mastered so far in the competition : bravura ,acesodyne, bouclé and naranjilla.

The finals will be shown live tonight on ESPN 2.

His sister made it to the national event five years ago and he went with her on that trip. She graduated from the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science last year.

Starkville Academy’s Bates Bennette, who won the Mid-South spelling bee title, was eliminated from the national finals in a preliminary round.
